What’s an ice dam?

An ice dam is a barrier of ice that forms on your roof as a result of melted snow refreezing. The snow most commonly melts because the attic is too hot – a result of poor insulation, or poor ventilation, or both.

Why are ice dams dangerous?

Ice dams are dangerous because water (from melting snow) dams up behind them, pooling on your roof. Eventually, that water can leak through your shingles and into your home, where it might ruin your drywall, cause electrical failures, damage property, and create breeding ground for black mold.

Who needs ice dam removal?

You need ice dam removal if you’ve got an ice dam on your roof, have roof leaks OR really want to avoid roof leaks, and don’t want to find out how much of the repair bill your insurance company is willing to pick up.

What’s ice dam removal?

Proper ice dam removal is a process of using a steamer to melt grooves in the ice so as to cut it into chunks that slide off your roof.

Any technique other than steaming is dangerous.  Using an ice dam steaming technique other than chunk-cutting is inefficient and costly.  The video above shows us steaming ice dams safely and efficiently.

What Minnesotans Say about Our Ice Dam Removal Service

“We had several severe ice dams in St. Paul, MN that needed serious professional help! It wasn’t disclosed to us that the previous owners had significant water damage from ice dams so of course we wanted to act fast when we heard that news. Ice Dam Guys was so prompt and professional in answering our questions and had someone out to our house in less than 12 hours! Tim H. was so great to work with! He explained the process and was realistic in how severe our dams were and how much work it required. It wasn’t cheap but we can sleep so much better knowing we won’t wake up to a flooded house. Thank you Tim H. for making the process so smooth, you were great!” – Meghan Peterson (see full review)

“Probably two of the coldest days this winter and Mike S. showed up and powered through both sides of our roof. Even with some equipment hiccups and being covered with an inch of ice himself he was able to clear up the dams and stop our leak. Very, very good with the neighbors as we live on the Eastside of St. Paul and there isn’t much space between houses. Recommended with the highest regards!” – Brian Eggen (see full review)

“I don’t write too many reviews unless the experience is really bad or really good. Well this is really good!! These guys are exceptional. In this case, Tom (Isaacs) was knowledgeable, informative and in every regards, professional. They aren’t just putting in their time. Tom was working hard and I really felt as if he was working on his own roof. Don’t settle for less when you are having such important work done on your home. Thanks for reading, Larry Davidson, North Branch, MN.” – Larry Davidson (see full review)

“I hired Ice Dam Guys in February 2019. They were responsive and quick to schedule the work — even in the middle of an ice dam epidemic in the Twin Cities. Brett came out and did good work. The equipment (truck with steam machine) looked new and high quality. It’s not a cheap service, but when you need it, Ice Dam Guys is a good choice.” – Bob Ingrassia (see full review)

“Nick from Ice Dam Guys was great! Professional, Orderly and Methodical (i had 12+ inches of ice dams on my eves). I called them at 9:30pm the night before and they were at my home by 10am the next day rescuing me from potential water disaster. Very happy with their response time and it wasn’t “Highway Robbery” like the horror stories I’ve seen on the news for other companies. Honest company and crew. Nick was friendly and explained to me what he was going to be doing. I will use them again when a MN Winter hits us over the head with an ice block again.” – Jeff Gustafson (see full review)
